It is the primary church of the Dominican order in Venice.

The two bell towers with rounded tops mark the Church of the Angel San Rafael, from the early 17th century.  The brick bell tower belongs to the Church of St Sebastiano, which was built in the mid 15th century.
  • Venice, Italy - the Gesuati - Church of Virgin Mary of the Rosary on the Giudecca Canal in the Dorsoduro District.  The current church was built in the early 18th century.  Although the church is called Gesuati - Jesuit - it was built by the Dominican order on the site of a former Jesuit Church.  The Jesuit order advocated a life of poverty and service.  They were never very popular in Venice.
  • A close up of the Church of Santa Maria della Pieta, on the St Mark Lagoon in the Castello district.  The Church dates from the mid-18th century.  Antonio Vivaldi taught choir at this church.
  • Venice, Italy - The Giudecca Canal looking into the Grand Canal.  This point of land marks the divide between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal.  To the right is the bell tower of the Church of San Stefano.  The low building in the center is the historical Library of European Linguistics.  To the far right is the Church of the Virgin Mary of Good Health, from the mid-17th century.  The church is one of the most well-known in Venice and is simply called "Salute."
  • Venice, Italy - The Rio della Fornace canal in the Dorsoduro district.  This canal is just beyond the huge Santa Maria della Salute church at the opening of the Grand Canal.  The bell tower in the distance is part of the Church of Santo Stefano.  It is leaning a good bit and is considered unstable and dangerous.
